I was living in LA. I’d been a media planner for the previous five years. I didn’t really like it, and frankly, I wasn’t very good at it. But what could I do? I’d already invested five years into media planning. Then, late one night at a karaoke bar in Santa Monica, a friend asked me a life-altering question:

“Hey, would you rather be at the bottom of a ladder you want to climb, or the middle of a ladder you don’t?”

A month later, I was attending ad school in Minneapolis.

I went from placing ads to making ads. And, as it turns out, I rather enjoy it.

From local radio to national campaigns. From branding to PR to performance marketing. From farm fields to Times Square. From B2C to B2B. From banking products to bicycle brands. From VR to AR to SMS. When it comes to creative advertising, I’ve checked off a lot of boxes—but there’s always room for more.
